This new series featured unique illustrations that combined graphic elements,

typography and inspirational quotes from some of the most important people in history.

After all, we can all use a little pick me up and wisdom in our life.

I have wanted to do a series of still life photos that are a departure from my usual style.

First thing that came to my mind was Edward's pepper. His style of photography proved to be much harder that I thought. After much trial and error, I finally got something that I’m happy with. It might not be like Edward’s; after all he is a master at light and shadow. But I hope you like it anyway. Coming soon to my Etsy store.

Now if I can only convince my husband to roll down a sand dune butt naked too, haha…

So who is Dr Sketchy you may ask...it's not a who but a when & where.

Dr Sketchy is a once a month getting together of artists and models.

It is a place where artists, painters and photographers can capture the images of the posting model for the whole afternoon. This is a very unique concept that started in NYC and now happening in 40 major cities around the world. So if you happen to be one of the lucky one in those cities, be sure to check it out. Just bring your tools of trade and $10 cover charge plus tips for the lovely models. You're now ready to paint, draw, click, drink and laugh with other art lovers.

Here's some highlight from my Dr Sketchy experience:

Kate had to hold these posts for up to 20 minutes at a time.

No one told me that our model would pick her favorite sketch in return for free cover on the next event.

I would have hid in the bathroom had I knew ahead of time, haha.

So, ya this is my first attempt at figure drawing, can you tell?!

Room for improvement for SURE, haha ^_^

Overall I had a blast. Looking forward to the next one already.

Here are some shots from my recent trip to beautiful Napa Valley. The weather was so beautiful there. The misty and foggy mornings there felt so surreal. For those of you who had been there, you know what I mean. And if you haven’t been to the great wine county, you should definitely add it to your list. This place is the perfect romantic getaway. These photos barely captured one tenth of the beauty Napa Valley has to offer. But I still hope you enjoy them!

Come the Spring

Here it is, my latest and greatest treasury, Come the Spring. A book from my favorite romantic novelist, Julie Garwood, inspires the title. I want this to be soft and romantic just like the novel. And it seems a good fit for Spring and Valentine's Day too. I was lucky enough to come across this amazing group of photographers; I just wish I could take such wonderful images too. This is by far one of the prettiest treasuries I had put together. So happy to share these great finds with everyone! Enjoy.

The season to give...Art Brushes Project

For the holiday season, the art boutique shop that was showcasing some of my works is having a fund raising event to benefits Big Brothers & Big Sisters. They had asked each artist to decorated a brush that is to be hung on the Christmas tree. And all the proceeds from the brushes will be donated.

Let there be dumplings…

It all started a couple of weeks ago when I got this insane craving for dumplings. Coming from a restaurant background, none of the store brought brands seem to do it for. So it seems like homemade is the way to go.

Of course, everything was so much easier back then when my family still owns a restaurant. The wrapping per made, the dough rolled out for me. The meat fillings were perfect every time. This is one of those moments when I truly missed the family business.

After some researching, we finally settle down to make it this past weekend. It looks pretty good from the outside, despite the facts that some of them are super ting while others are the size of my fist. Ya, my dough rolling helper is kind of new to this, not pointing any fingers of course (two fingers pointing at my hubby behind my back, hehe) He started off rolling out kind of square like wrapping, not the perfect circle but I could handle it, then as the night goes by, they became longer and more deform. Toward the end, I swear I got the world’s map on my plate. Ha-ha, he was trying so hard it was cute.

In the end, it’s all good. The dumplings turn out pretty good. Still need some fine-tuning but it was a lot of fun making it. It’s not about the food but it’s part when family gathering together around the table for one task. And that was what I missed the most.

A Very Special Treasury

So I stay up late and snagged myself a treasury from ETSY this past Saturday night. I call this one “XOXO” which was suggested by my husband.

As usually, I send a quick e-mail along with the link to all the sellers whom listing was featured in this treasury.

A day later I got a reply from form one of the sellers thanking me for including her work. In this e-mail, she also went on to explain that not only was this her first treasury feature, but this one truly meant something special to her. You see, she just lost her husband a week earlier and this treasury, which is titled hugs and kisses, make her felt that perhaps he is watching over her some how or sending her a very special message. I start crying after reading this e-mail. And in my heart I hope that this simple little treasury had help lifted her spirit even for a second during such a tough time in her life.

I guess sometimes the smallest random action can affect someone else’s life.

Quinceañera: 1 part girl; 2 part woman

In Latin American culture, is a coming of age ceremony held on a girl's fifteenth birthday. The term Quinceaños refers to the birthday of the celebrant, and the term Quinceañera refers to the celebrant herself. Like many other coming-of-age ceremonies, the Quinceaños is associated with the Quinceañera "becoming a lady"

It finally happened!!! I got some of my artwork into this new art & craft boutique store call Eclectica. My works will be on display there for the next three month. I have been working nonstop for the last month to get everything ready for the event. Their grand opening was last weekend. Since this is the first time any of my artworks & photographs were even in a store, you can only imagine how excited I was. I still can't believe I made it, haha.

Hopefully something will sale.

I was reading one of our local new papers a couple of weeks back and who is being featured in an article? AMY SOL! OMG! She is currently one of my favorite new artists. It’s easy to be drawn into the dreamy and mystical world she created. Most of her works are delicate acrylic paint on wood. She has even incorporates the grain of the wood into the painting. Her pop abstract surreal style of painting has won over thousands of fans like myself. And the best part is that she lives here in Vegas! Hey, I might run into her one day

Her artworks are going for thousands of dollar now so we can't afford it at this point. Maybe some day I will. But we do own this in print, mine is lucky number 7 out 100. It looks so lovely on my wall.

Napa Valley: Beautiful Wine Country

Visited the beautiful Napa Valley this past weekend.

I think I fell in love again.
The wine country was so breathtakingly beautiful that I didn’t want to leave.
The prefect weather, the blue clear sky and endless view of the vineyard make this an unforgettable trip. I wanted to go back already. Here are a few photos but the real thing is ten times more beautiful. Go for a visit if you had never been there before.

Flower theme abstract painting…coming soon to ETSY

Here it is, the latest and greatest.

This painting was inspired by some watercolor paintings I saw on the wall of my favorite sushi joint. I wanted to recreate the texture of a watercolor painting using really water down acrylic paints. My goal is to capture the romantic and dreamy feel of the flowers without actually drawing them. This piece is totally an experiment but it turn out really pretty. I really enjoy working on it. There will be more of this style of artwork in the future.

I will be listing this painting on my ETSY store as soon as I get a chance to do a photo shoot. Stay tune ^_^

New Bookend Ideas

After a whole weekend of cleaning...

So the hubby and I was cleaning up the house this pass weekend and decided to do some rearranging while we are at it. We added a bookcase to the living room, which turn out to be the best thing we can do to our place. Since both of us are bookworms, we are practicality drowning in books and magazines. We constantly have to fight for space to house his huge collection of art books or my romantic novels, which result in every flat surface in the house having a stack of books on it. Not to mentions all the magazines we added to the collection weekly.

Enough about the mass now, let's get back to the bookcase.

We wanted to display a small selection of book on top of the bookcase with two cool bookends. Since we can’t seem to find a pair of bookend that suited our need, we have to think outside the box. Or in this case, inside the box. We got two white small wooded boxes and lined the boxes with a bed of river rocks to make them heavy enough to hold the books. We love how they turn out.

What I really love is how neat and clean my house looks. At least for now anyway ^_^

New Painting: Jewel Of The Sea

This one comes right out of the water!

The sea seems like such beautiful and romantic place, so full of surprises and treasures. I was always fascinated by the many wonders of the deep blue. After my recent trip to San Francisco, my longing for the ocean seems to grow even stronger. I wanted to create a painting that reminds me of the sea. The shades of blue, green and purple in the background stand up to each other but yet live in perfect harmony at the same time. The circles of pearls just flow freely as they would in the water. The colors are beautiful, romantic and smoothing.

I just love how every come together so nicely.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy painting it.

Mark Ryden and “The Snow Yak”

Love Mark Ryden's Paintings!!!

He is another one of my favorite artists. One of the best of the lowbrow art movement. I prefer his work to Baseman and the others. Mark Ryden’s work invited us into his dark and surreal world. The paintings are so detail and skillful yet creepy. His works are at this point are highly collectable.

His new exhibition “The Snow Yak” had travel half way around the world to Japan and will be showing in New York soon. Seeing his works in real life is simply breath taking.

I really wish I could go. Hopefully it will make its way to the west coast too.

First Friday Artwalk

We went to the monthly Art Walk this past Friday. It’s nice to see so many talented artists being showcased. I was also very impressed by the amount of tattoo style art going on canvas and into art galleries. Good for them, many of those tattoo artists are so talented. Wish I had the money to support them more.

All night long I keep seeing artworks with ideas that I was thinking of earlier. I guess great minds do think alike, ha-ha. ^_^

Finally done with the Polka Dots series.

This is a very happy and fun series. Make me smile just looking at them.

I took a different approach when doing the photo shoot. In effect to make the photos look more whimsical, I shot them at an angel and play with the field of depth. The yellow with red polka dots piece just jump right out at you. It’s definitely a fun piece. Each piece is unique and yet they complement each other. I’m very happy with how they come out.

Yoshitomo Nara - He is one of my favorite artists of all time.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to check out a lot of his artworks in real life.
A few years ago I went to this art galleries / warehouse of a private collector and they own a few piece of his works including the Pup King and The Little Pilgrims.

The King Pup and I met again in Art Basel that year. I even walked under him and THAT was the highlight of the whole show for me.

Then years later, we discover there’s a maid café in LA, Royal/T which also double as an art galleries showcasing the owner’s private collection. BTW, a must stop if you are into the Japanese contemporary art, yummy food & tea.

And there he is again, right in the front display window, oh King Pup, how I miss you. If only I can take you home with me.

Notice how my t-shirt got the puppy on it too, told you I'm a fan ^_^

First all, feeling much better today.

I’m almost finished with my polka dots series. Just some last minutes touch up and I should be able to shoot the photos and list it on ETSY in the next couple of days. Next I will work on my watercolor series. Kind of got inspired this weekend at my favorite sushi place. They got these beautiful prints of watercolor on their wall, so soft and dreamy. Can’t wait to come up with my own. I think I will start with some abstract flowers first and see where it takes me. ^_^

I want to go home and paint >_<

I'm just not having a good day today.

I wake up with my body aching and everything just went down hill from there. Thing just seems to annoy me. I even annoyed myself with all these complaining. It's just one of those days when you over think every little aspect of your life. Not liking where I stand and not sure how to change where I’m going next. No longer happy doing what I did for all these years. Angry at myself for wishing things will change when it’s clear that it won’t. Thinking about giving it all up but still wanted to go down kicking and screaming. Really want to just walk out and go hide under a rock for a few months. Do a little soul searching... T_T

I got a lot of store up energy but with no motivations. I NEED to create more artwork, the kind that no one can tell me to change anything about it because it’s mine, all mine. Sick and tired of people who want your service because you’re good but show no respect for it. Just want to turn into the biggest bitch and send them all to hell.

Sick of so many things I don’t even know where to start…

I will get over it soon. I always do. But until then, stay away... …

I'm think about making another treasury as soon as I finish with my new series of paintings.

It's going to be about dots this time. Really into dots lately, don't know why.

Plus I just love doing treasury, I hope I help promoted those sellers, hopefully it lead to a sell.

Trying to figure this blogging thing out. Felt like I'm a whole century behind everyone T_T...oh well, better late than never.
